SOCIAL JUSTICE
PARTICIPANT ADVOCACY COUNCIL (PAC) AT THE CENTER FOR EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES (CEO WORKS)
I have been through the carcel system, and I believe that we need to fix the disposition of how the legal system incarcerated Black and Brown people. I wanted to make a difference but questioned how could I. Luckily, when I came home from prison I joined an agency that help with employment and had its own division gear to the social justice movement.
I am now part of a social justice cohort called PAC (Participtant Advocate Council) at CEO Works (Center for Employment Opportunities). They have lobbied for the Less is More Act changing parole directives that give parolees pending the nature of their past crime and behavior while on parole the reward of 30 days off for every 30 days in good standings.
Since I became a member I have lobbied with another non-profit organization Community Not Cage (CCA) working toward eliminating Mandatory Minimum Sentencing, Second Look Act, Earn Good Time Act, and Clean Slate Act. PAC is also in association with Treatment Not Jail (TNJ), lobbying for mental health programs instead of prison.

On April 26, 2022, the movement continues with a featured Event for RETURNING STRONG: A Virtual Rally for Reentry Cash Assistance.
#Returning Strong
The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) presents a virtual evening of advocacy, storytelling, and action wherever you are.
People returning from prison receive a small amount of cash, sometimes as little as $10. However, states like California are considering increasing the amount of money given to those leaving prison. And we are calling for broader action on reentry cash assistance for returning citizens.
This national rally is about the power of cash assistance to change reentry. You will hear from returning citizens, including those impacted by CEO’s Returning Citizens Stimulus (RCS), and learn how cash assistance enabled them to overcome common reentry challenges. And you'll get an opportunity to take immediate action to support positive changes to reentry.
During this event, we will:
-
Meet the change agents who are transforming reentry.
-
Hear from partners and allies at For the People, Second Chance Center, Just Income GNV and many more.
-
Discuss ways to take action on important legislation, including California’s SB 1304 “gate money” bill sponsored by Sen. Sydney Kamlager.

Advocacy Day In our State Capital Albany, NY with Community Not Cages 4/26/2022

18 days left until legislation votes on bills that will change our laws. April 26, 2022, Advocacy Day in our state capital! Community Not Cages advocating for Eliminating Mandatory Sentencing, Second Look Act, and Earned Time Act.
There are many men and women behind bars that are not given a fair chance to rehabilitate and return home to their loved ones. The system has locked away young men and women at a very young age and deemed them not capable of change. But, we all know that we are not the same person that we were a year ago. "Changing" is one of human beings' constant. Especially through education and gaining of skills, it changes how we feel about ourself worth, and that is true rehabilitation!

Assembly Women Yudelka Tapia STRONG SUPPORTER OF ALL 3 BILLS!!
Assemblywomen Tapia is a native of The Bronx. She supports the bills because she understands the hardships that we face in urban communities. Her children have experienced the mistreatment that young black and brown men and women face from our justice system. She believes that there must be a change, and these 3 bills are a start.

Empowering the Voice of the Youth (EVY)
In Urban communities, our youth has the idea that their voice doesn't matter. They know that the system is broken and that it's very likely that they would fall victim to the brutality of policing and the judicial system. I have spoken with many of our youth and as well our adults, and most have already given up on the fairness of what America's democracy is supposed to represent and stand for.
Changing the narrative! I believe that we have to educate on the full process of our democracy. Teaching them the process of being the constituent, and what that really means. Our youth has to know regardless of where they come from their voice has power.
As the owner of Legacy Works Enterprises, we want to bring that knowledge to our youth. See Non-profit.

March 22, 2022, a social justice seminar at Regis High School an all-boys school, and the Dominican Academy an all-girls high school with a fella formerly incarcerated brother Quintin Murray.

Quintin and I had experienced two different paths that led to our incarceration. Sharing our stories on that journey to prison, and the positive path that we both are on today. Learn more about Quintin Murray visit his website: QuintinMurray.com

Legacy Works Enterprises is the start of my dream. My writing and others writing is the fuel for my true dream which is UrbanDreamers. Because I believe that teaching the knowledge about how our nation operates is important to our urban youth, so they can make better decisions. Knowledge is a priceless tool and with knowledge decision-making has clarity!
